November 2017 - Spain

What birds can you expect to see at the beginning of winter in the Extremadura? We organized a 2 week trip and started off in the Monfragüe National Park, west of Madrid. It was really really cold in the morning and waiting for the vultures to fly by wasn't a real treat. We also took a trip into the lowlands to find a lot of little owls. The second part of the trip would be mainly sitting in hides and waiting for the birds to come to either feeding-place or water-pools.

It really is an amazing experience to see Spanish Imperial Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Griffon Vulture, Sardinian Warbler, Rock Sparrow etc. etc. come so close. But after a few days of sitting in the hides, we were keen to stretch our legsand we did so in the Sierra de Gredos, where we were looking for Spanish Ibex. That is a very handsome looking species and we were lucky to witness the beginning of the rut with lots of fighting between the huge males and chasing the girls.

For the rest of the trip we sat back into different hides and were waiting for Golden Eagle, Northern Goshawk and Western Marsh Harrier.

I have updated Horns and TusksTalons and sharp Beeks and Colourful Beauties. Enjoy the pics.

May 2016 - Rumania, Danube Delta

We went for a week into the bird-paradise called Danube Delta. With the "Ultima Frontiera" we have found a nice host. It took us a while to get into this remote nature reserve, but it was really worthwhile. Haven't seen so many birds on one spot outside of Africa. And I was getting keen to get into the differnt hides and see, what fortune is gonna bring into the range of my camera.

So, a lot of the days was sitting in a dark hide and waiting for the birds or, photographing them. It was long days, with some funpacked moments concerning mud-filled wellingtons, broken down golfcarts and some vanished amphibians, that we have cought during a night session.

Most of the wildlife portfolios are topped up with some pictures from Rumania. Go check Claws and Teeth,  Talons and sharp BeeksAt the Water's EdgeColourful Beauties and Reptiles and Amphibians.

I hope you like them.

See ya soon......
